What I’ve Learned After 10 Years as a Wellness Entrepreneur (pt. 1)
Ten years in wellness has taught me more than any textbook ever could. It’s been a journey of growth, grit, and grace — filled with triumphs, challenges, and countless lessons that continue to shape who I am as an entrepreneur, teacher, and human being. To celebrate this milestone, I’m sharing ten lessons that have guided me along the way.
1. Fail Fast
I often joke that I’m a recovering perfectionist. When I first stepped into wellness entrepreneurship, I believed my mistakes would be seen as ineptitude. Fortunately, I quickly learned they are the greatest teachers. Every imperfect class was a stepping stone toward clarity. Failing fast means embracing experimentation, learning quickly, and refusing to let perfectionism stall progress. Mistakes aren’t setbacks — they’re redirections toward what truly fits.
Takeaway: Don’t fear failure. Invite it, learn from it, and let it propel you forward.
2. You Can’t Be Everything to Everyone
Early on, I tried to say ‘yes’ to everything — every client, every request, every trend. The result? Burnout and diluted impact. Tangible growth came when I defined my values, clarified my audience, and focused my offerings. When you show up fully for the people you’re meant to serve, your work resonates more deeply.
Takeaway: Alignment matters more than approval. Serve your people, not everyone.
3. Know When to Pivot
The wellness industry is dynamic — what worked last year may not work today. I’ve had to pivot offerings, platforms, and even entire business models. Pivoting isn’t quitting; it’s evolving. It’s listening to your intuition, your energy, and your market, then adjusting with courage.
Takeaway: Stay flexible. Growth requires evolution, not rigidity.
4. Take Care of Yourself
As wellness service providers, we often pour into others until our own cup runs dry. I learned the hard way that I am my first client. My physical, emotional, and spiritual health must come first if I want to serve others sustainably. Boundaries aren’t selfish — they’re essential.
Takeaway: Protect your energy. Prioritize yourself so you can show up fully for others.
5. Know When to Walk Away
Not every opportunity is meant for you. I’ve said yes to projects that drained my joy or compromised my values, only to realize that walking away was the most powerful choice. Letting go creates space for what truly aligns.
Takeaway: If it doesn’t serve your growth or integrity, release it.
